Half day Hike to Mirador de los Condores 

This is the shortest hike from El Chaltén, that enables you to reach a viewpoint that lend itself to exceptional panoramic views of the Adela, Torre and Fitz Roy massifs, and the Río de las Vueltas valley. 

Optionally you can access to a second viewpoint on a natural balcony with views of the steppe and the large Viedma Lake. 

Duration: 1 hour (one way) / Difficulty: easy / Elevation: 100 m.

Leaving from El Chaltén, cross over the town access bridge over the Río Fitz Roy and continue along the road until you reach the National Park Visitors' Centre where the trail begins. From there, this well signed trail ascends until you get to a viewpoint. As it name shows, the lookout point is situated in a strategic place for the eventual observation of condors in their frequent glide to and from the Río Fitz Roy valley. It is also an excellent alternative to appreciate the imposing granite peaks and glaciers that dominate the horizon. The trail to Las Águilas viewpoint begins at a bifurcation situated a few minutes before reaching Los Cóndores viewpoint, and just over a 15 minutes walking, you arrive to this natural balcony with panoramic views over the steppe and the Viedma lake.

Full Day Hike-Trekking to Laguna de los Tres (Fitz Roy balcony) 

This is the most sought-after trek and viewpoint, with spectacular views of the Fitz Roy massif. This natural viewpoint is undoubtedly the most famous of all treks closer to the imposing walls of Fitz Roy mount and its surrounding granite peaks. 

Itinerary: The trail-head begins at the end of San Martín Av, where El Chaltén town ends. The slope is quite steep during the first hour until you reach Del Salto River valley towards Mount Fitz Roy. You will notice that the ñire trees become more and more numerous along the path and approximately after an hour and a half you will reach a well marked natural viewpoint. There you will find a sign that interprets the whole landscape on view. The trail continues up along the Del Salto River until reaching the drainage of the Lagunas Madre e Hija. Approximately four hours from the start, you will arrive at Poincenot base camp (large free campsite) and after crossing the Río Blanco you will arrive at Río Blanco base camp (only for climbers). From there the path continues in ascent approximately 400 m. until you reach Laguna de los Tres. The trail finishes at the old moraine ridge with an extraordinary view of the lagoon and De los Tres Glacier. This is the closest view to the granite wall of Mt. Fitz Roy and the peaks around. Going down the moraine, you can take a trail that circles the lagoon until its outfall, where it is possible to appreciate the emerald waters of the Laguna Sucia and its hanging glaciers.

Half day Hike to Chorrillo del Salto 

At the northern end of the village, take the gravel route towards Lago del Desierto (Provincial Route No. 41) The route follows the river course and as it enters in the foothills you will begin to see the first trees (ñires). 

After 30-40 minutes walking from the beginning, you will pass the entrance to the "Bicisenda" (bike trail) on your right hand side, exclusively for cycling. If you take this path rather than continue walking down the gravel route that also leads to the trail head, you will be avoiding the heavy traffic of vehicles during peak season. 

Finally, you access a well-marked parking area before the head-trail. The waterfall is on the last leg of the Chorrillo river before it flows into the De las Vueltas river. The total distance of this trek is only 4 Km from El Chalten
