Day 2

Rise and shine to the first full day of your winter adventure in Iceland! Today you will go on an iconic road trip through the Golden Circle, a route that passes through Icelandic countryside to see spouting geysers, crashing waterfalls, and stunning views all around.

Thingvellir National Park Tour

Your first stop will be in Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you will be able to look down a volcanic rift and straddle two tectonic plates, the only place where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet and can be seen on dry land. Thingvellir is recognized as the place in which Iceland’s identity as a nation began.

The Great Geysir and Strokkur Viewing

Visit the spouting hot springs of the Great Geysir and Strokkur where you’ll be able to walk around the geothermic area. The lively Strokkur spouts water 100 feet into the air every few minutes, so have your camera and enjoy the show.

Gullfoss Waterfall Visit

Gullfoss, or the ‘Golden Waterfall’, is a magnificent two-tiered waterfall that drops 105 feet into a narrow canyon 230 feet deep and 1.5 miles long. Geologists believe that this canyon was formed by sudden releases of massive amounts of water from melted glaciers—pretty impressive!

Northern Lights Spotting (weather dependent)

Experience the northern lights, aka aurora borealis. Nature will decide whether this Icelandic sight is yours to enjoy! These beautiful dancing waves of light are best viewed an hour or so before midnight, so cozy up with your group and witness this celestial phenomenon. Lucky you—your hotel is the perfect place to view the Northern Lights!

Laki Lava Fields Drive

The Lakagigar (Laki craters) is a series of craters that were formed in one of the world’s largest mixed eruptions in recorded history. The eruption of 1783 spewed lava and volcanic ash, stretching almost 16 miles across the area, creating a lava field that’s larger than New York City.

Skaftafell National Park Walk

A fairly easy hike will take you to Vatnajokull glacier (the largest glacier in Europe) which covers a whopping 8% of Iceland’s landmass. As you continue, you will encounter some of the country’s most striking scenery including glacier lagoons and Reynisdrangar, basalt sea stacks at the base of Reynisfjall mountain.

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon Visit

Jokulsarlon, one of Iceland’s natural crown jewels, is the deepest lake in Iceland with depths of 814 feet and a surface area of 11 square miles. The striking blue color of the icebergs in Jokulsarlon are made up of ice that is 1,000+ years old and the mixture of sea and freshwater gives the lagoon its unique turquoise color.

South Coast Glacier and Waterfall Drive

Drive through the magnificent south shore, surrounded by mountains, thundering waterfalls and glaciers. From dramatic glaciers like Reynisdrangar and Solheimajokull to the power and strength of the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, the natural beauty you will experience today is truly unforgettable.

Blue Lagoon Visit

The healing waters of Iceland’s Blue Lagoon along with its mystical atmosphere have made this geothermal spa one of Iceland's most popular attractions. The beautiful milky-blue water is a stark contrast to the surrounding black lava fields and gray moss. For the ultimate recharge of mind, body and spirit, dive in—the water is amazing!
