Arrival Day

San Jose is perched at an elevation of 1150m, with the Poas, Barva, and Irazu volcanoes rising gracefully over the city to the north, and the rugged Talamanca mountains to the south. San Jose’s magnificent Teatro Nacional, outstanding museums, colorful markets, modern street art, and beautiful plazas are within walking distance of one another.

Day 2

For four decades, Arenal was one of the world's most active volcanoes, but it has been in a peaceful state of slumber since 2010, producing only the occasional plume of smoke. The perfectly conical volcano may be dormant, but it still provides a majestic backdrop for endless activities in the rugged and varied Arenal Volcano National Park. Hiking trails follow old lava flows, and sloths, coatis, monkeys and anteaters can be spotted on the way. There is horseback riding, biking and ziplining, as well as relaxing dips in volcano-heated hot springs.

Arenal Vida Campesina

We will visit the small, family-owned organic farm Arenal Vida Campesina, where we will gain insight into traditional, sustainable farming practices. Our host will welcome us with a fresh fruit juice, and then it's time for some hands-on farming. We will learn how to milk a cow, gather fruit and vegetables, collect water from the well, mill sugar cane, and make tortillas. We will then enjoy a typical, organic Costa Rican lunch, cooked on a woodstove with ingredients from a farm.

Ecotermales Fortuna Hot Springs Dinner

The springs consist of five free-flowing pools set in a natural river gorge. Water temperature ranges from 100ºF (38ºC) to 109ºF (43ºC) depending on the pool. An assortment of blended smoothies and cocktails are prepared at the bar located in the pool area (at an additional cost). A Costa Rican Home style meal is included.

Manuel Antonio National Park

Costa Rica's smallest national park packs in an assortment of natural attractions, from wildlife sheltered by rainforest to tranquil beaches and coral reefs teeming with marine life. Meandering trails framed by mangrove and silk-cotton trees serve as refuge to squirrel monkeys, white-faced capuchin monkeys, coatis, iguanas and sloths. The views from the hills overlooking the park are spectacular, as the rich, deep green of the rainforest sweeps down to the golden beaches and the blue Pacific.

Day 5

Los Sueños Canopy Tour

This canopy is a project designed not only as an extreme adventure, but a way to enjoy nature without harming the environment; our property boasts spectacular views of the Herradura Bay and Island, as well as the Nicoya Gulf.  Within the property, you will have the opportunity to view the Scarlet Macaws, Chest nut mandible Toucans and white-face monkeys. The property rests on 80 acres of land... 50% of which is primary forest, where the canopy is located. The adventure starts on a 15 minute ride aboard our specially designed 40 passenger tractor.  Once we arrive to the top of the mountain we then descend to the bottom via a series of zip lines, including 15 platforms and 14 cables with a total cable distance of 3.5 kilometer including the longest cable in the area of 2400 ft.

Sea Kayaking & Snorkeling

At the pier in Quepos we will board our kayak (single or double), and paddle along the Pacific coastline, on the lookout for dolphins, manta rays, and sea turtles. The islands that dot the sea are surrounded by volcanic rock, and they are the nesting grounds of pelicans, boobies and ibises. Halfway we will make a 30-minute stop at the sheltered cove of Playa Biesanz for some snorkeling and chilling, before paddling back to the pier in Quepos. A delicious lunch awaits us at base camp. Includes: Transfer from/to hotel, snack at beach, snorkeling equipment, lunch, English-speaking guide. Duration: 4 hours (2.5 hours kayaking).
