Ubud shops, galleries and craft shops blend traditional arts and crafts with modern design. Visiting European artists, attracted by the lure of an untouched tropical paradise, were encouraged to stay. They gave new impetus to existing, local arts, while creating some exciting new forms in the process. This atmosphere reverbs to this day.

Ubud - Mount Batur sunrise hike

Day 3

At dawn time, around 03.00am, you will meet our guide and transfer to the starting point for the climb of Mt. Batur. After enjoying the sunrise, descend and refresh yourself in a hot spring pool.

Return to Ubud and drive via Tegalalang rice terrace.

Sunrise Trekking Mt. Batur with Hot Spring Pool

After an early morning wake up call, you will be driven to the crater rim of Mount Batur where you will start a moderate hike into the peak, some 1.700 m above sea level. Watch a beautiful sunrise with a red sky. The view over the lake with the same name as the mountain, as the sun rises behind Gunung Abang and Gunung Rinjani on Lombok, is definitely worth the effort. Descend down via a different way and at the end you will have an ample time to enjoy hot spring pool with a beautiful view on the lake. Home to Dewi Danu, the goddess of the crater lake, Danau Batur is especially sacred to the Balinese. Situated 500m below the crater rim, this is the largest lake in Bali, some 8km long and 3km wide, and one of the most glorious: the villages dotted around its shores are referred to as bintang danu (stars of the lake).

Penelokan, Kintamani

Penelokan is perched on the edge of the crater of Mt Batur, and its name means `place to look`. You will enjoy breathtaking views over the volcano and the lake of Batur. Mount Batur is actually just a small volcano, but it set is in the heart of a huge crater that is 14km in diameter. Adjacent to the volcano is the large crescent-shaped Batur Lake, all surrounded by the high walls of the crater rim. The sheer size of the crater conjures up images of the massive eruption of the original Mount Batur that occurred tens of thousands years ago. The volcano is still active today. Balinese all over the island who still remember the great eruption of 1917 will testify. It claimed thousands of lives and destroyed hundreds of temples. It was "the year when the world shook”.

Tegalalang Rice Terrace

Tegalalang Rice village located on the north-south road from Kintamani and Ubud. Various woodcarvings can be found in this village and its neighbors. Very colorful carvings of flowers, animals and other designs are displayed along the road, and of course a beautiful rice-field with coconut trees and small river valley.Grain terrace or rice terrace in Tegalalang is exactly situated within the hillsides above Ubud, this is a typical scene in Bali. The terraced rice-field is typical of the beauty of the Balinese countryside. During the growth period of the rice, the fields are periodic flooded. The Subak or irrigation cooperatives, regulate the allow of water and maintenance of irrigation networks. The water from single dam may be divided into douses and even hundreds of channel to irrigate the terraced Sawah, note how any-terraced field are served by this one particular manual serves.

It effortlessly combines Hindu and Buddhist elements into a unique sample of Balinese temple architecture The location on the shore of the giant lake effectively filling a crater formed thousands of years ago by a seismic blast of an extinct volcano, is significant. The lake supplies most of the drinkable water to large areas of Bali. Dense pine forests tumble down the slopes of Mount Bratan to the calm shoreline dotted with holy shrines.
